Solar Swimming Pool Heating System

The tubing is placed underneath a north facing pool courtyard, driveway or a large terrace. The swimming pool water is circulated through the tubing during the summer months. The solar heated courtyard warms the fluid in the tubing and the warmed fluid is circulated through the swimming pool. The larger the collection area, the greater the performance. The collection area needs to be in full sunshine and not obscured by shadows.

The system has its own pump and is independent from the filtration system, and is thermostatically controlled.

We have found from experience that our system does not work well with a weir swimming pool, because the heat is lost to the atmosphere as the water goes over the weir.

A dark pool cover must be used when the pool is not in use to minimise heat loss, especially at night because the cool air has a chilling effect on the water.
